Clairfontaine PastelgrainPastelgrain is another unique pastel surface from Clairfontaine. Pastelgrain has the same characteristics as Pastelmat except that it has a noticable, mild, surface texture. Pastelgrain allows you to use texture creatively. You can accentuate textural effects and add depth by using the grain in the paper, but also progressively build layers of pastel to control the amount of texture. You can also plan for, and reach, the stage where areas of the painting can be textural and others not. Pastelgrain is 360gsm, acid free, water resistant and lightfast. Underpainting and the use of alcohol and solvents are fine with Pastelgrain.
